The Noisy Neighbor

Sometimes a tenant is bad enough to drive away your OTHER tenants.  Such is the case with Red who runs the blog, Girl with the Red Balloon.  She and her husband just found another apartment to move into after their fellow tenant’s love for noise and passive aggressive attitude drove them away from an apartment that they love.  Let this be a rule landlords: don’t let a bad tenant drive a good tenant away.

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve probably heard about our problems with our neighbor. Last Friday, our problems took a funny turn. Read more »

Problem is Bad Tenants, Not Landlords

In response to the ongoing assault on landlords and local taxpaying, attentive, responsible, multiunit property owners, I would like to assign blame where it belongs. I’d bet you even money that it isn’t the property owners (landlords) who are routinely abusing, neglecting or abandoning their properties. Go to the courthouse in Pittsfield and talk to the women in the civil court office and get the list of the “tenants” or “renters” (both terms used lightly) who are constantly on the books for one complaint or another and go see how they treat other people’s property. Even Room Renters Can Be From Hell

The following is a guest post from Crystal at Budgeting in the Fun Stuff, where she covers spending, savings, and the fun stuff along the way.

My husband and I bought our home 4 years ago.  A year later we realized we had an extra bedroom that we never used and a $740 mortgage that annoyed me.  Then we made what sounded like an amazing idea – we rented out our spare bedroom and bathroom.

Springfield Residents Tire of Trashy Neighbor

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Sandra Shepard and her neighbors are fed up with their neighbor’s mess in the 1800 block of North Jefferson Avenue.  They’re doing everything in their power to get it cleaned up but, despite their efforts, the trash has not disappeared.

“They are just hauling this in in pickup loads and going through it, and recycling,” said Shepard. Read more »

Silence. It’s Just Good Business

Our first tenant from hell story comes from Greg McFarlane.  Greg runs ControlYourCash.com and wrote the book, Control Your Cash: Making Money Make Sense, a financial primer for people who want results, not coddling. Get the physical or Kindle edition and contact him at Greg at ControlYourCash dot com.  The original entry can be found at the post about their commercial tenant from hell.

The Control Your Cash authors own an office building. In a couple of weeks, the tenant is supposed to start the 3rd and final year of the lease. It calls for a fixed annual rent increase.

The tenant was late with the rent once before. That time, the good-cop author waived the 10% late fee after listening to an excuse from the tenant’s octogenarian chief financial officer. The good-cop author stressed that this would be a one-time-only thing. Read more »

Hello world!

Hi!  I’m Sandy, and I run a blog called Yes, I Am Cheap. That blog is a debt reduction blog and you can read all about my efforts to get out of debt over there but that’s not what this blog is about.  This blog is about my tenant and your tenant.  By far, some of the most popular posts on Yes, I Am Cheap have been about my horrible tenant.  It’s a very long and complicated story, but the most recent chapter, filled with photo evidence to back up my claims, is now ranked in the top ten sites on Google for the search term “tenant from hell“.  Yes, she’s that bad.  You can read about more of my ongoing saga with my tenant from hell on that blog.  Read more »
